The Plot Against Harold Wilson
#21

I wonder which contemplated coup against Wilson the above refers to - the 1968 one, allegedly to be fronted by Mountbatten, or the 1974/5 one? Or does it cover both?

Oddly enough, it was the earlier one which appears to have been much better organised and altogether more "establishment," certainly in terms of the domestic players. The transnational character of the 1968 plot likewise appears much more obvious, but perhaps that's just my ignorance of events in the later years.

Was the later coup plot a product of the same establishment, only this time using plausibly deniable players of a much cruder cut? Or was the establishment, most obviously in the US, the only which really counted, a house divided - Trilats v Nationalists - by this stage?
"There are three sorts of conspiracy: by the people who complain, by the people who write, by the people who take action. There is nothing to fear from the first group, the two others are more dangerous; but the police have to be part of all three,"

David Guyatt Wrote:There was an excellent tv drama series called A Very British Coup broadcast by Channel 4 in the 1980's on this.

There was also a very good docudrama on TV about this back in 2006 called The Plot Against Harold Wilson by the BBC (that will never happen again now the Beeb is so neutered).

I managed to procure a copy of 'A Very British Coup' and 'The Plot Against Wilson' is on this thread. And with RK's additional video drama just added it looks like I'm set for the day. Books will arrive in the next day or so I am told.

XBMC is a very good source for old movies like "A Very British Coup" btw.
The shadow is a moral problem that challenges the whole ego-personality, for no one can become conscious of the shadow without considerable moral effort. To become conscious of it involves recognizing the dark aspects of the personality as present and real. This act is the essential condition for any kind of self-knowledge.

I suspect we could learn a lot from a comparative study of the downfalls of Wilson, Whitlam and Brandt and the various parties involved in those cases. A timeline of that period would certainly make for interesting reading.

By pure chance I found a copy of the David Leigh book in Oxfam today. I've only read the first few pages to far but it looks promising.
“The most difficult subjects can be explained to the most slow-witted man if he has not formed any idea of them already; but the simplest thing cannot be made clear to the most intelligent man if he is firmly persuaded that he knows already, without a shadow of doubt, what is laid before him.”

I need to get a tutorial from you on this marvellous discovery!

I Googled Youtube - it's all set out there - even for a techno-incompetent like me. Mashup is a required add-on and fairly straight forward to do. It does take a bit of time to get to know how it works though as it's driven by amateurs and hobbyists. But worth the effort, I think.
