Warren's failed JFK inquiry
A communitywide discussion is now under way as to the appropriateness of naming the new federal courthouse in honor of Bakersfield's distinguished native son, Earl Warren. In my view, the darkest chapter of Warren's otherwise remarkable career was his role in the creation of the supposedly official truth about the assassination of President John F. Kennedy. To his credit, Warren strongly resisted being part of the investigation that now bears his name: The Warren Commission Report. Even though he ultimately yielded to enormous pressure by Lyndon Johnson to head that commission, Warren personally did not want the prestige of his good name or that of the chief justice to be used as the stamp of approval on that investigation
