Japan Investigates Online Posting of Obama Flight Plans --Ministry: Controller posted 12 pages of delicate information that included flight plans of Global Hawk drone gathering radiation readings near Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant 11 Sep 2011 Japanese officials moved to control diplomatic damage after an air traffic controller was questioned here for posting secret American flight information on his blog, including the detailed flight plans of Air Force One last November. The Transportation Ministry said Saturday that the controller, who works at Haneda Airport in Tokyo, could face charges of leaking national secrets. The breach also included the flight data of an American military reconnaissance drone.

It's entirely possible that this is the real reason for arresting the air traffic controller....

Noone trusts the "official" readings being presented to the world by the Japanese nuclear industry and government.

I wonder if the Americans even 'asked' if they could monitor the level of radiation. Jan is correct, no one believes the [few] mentions of levels. However, very quietly admitted is that more than all that was released from Chernobyl has already been exceeded. It is likely that it is equal to one Chernobyl every six months - and radiation leaking at the same rates as in the early stages....not diminished nor contained in any way. They are years from controlling the radiation - at which time some unknown multiple of Chernobyl will have been reached. Also unknown are the exact radiation species, which make a big difference for the effects on living systems. I know that the workers at the plant itself have all had their families and homes relocated at least 60km away. The whole island of Japan has been affected to some extent by the radiation and some large areas have been greatly impacted and may not in the foreseeable future host any cities, towns, agriculture or human activity....that area is growing and will not shrink in our lifetime....or that of the next generation.

The secrecy is apparently in part reticence on the part of the Gov't of Japan to admit how much they have ****ed up the entire matter; and in part the desire of the entire global nuclear industry to downplay the dangers associated with nuclear power. Radiation may be silent and invisible, but it is hardly possible to disguise to anyone with a dosimeter....this charade will not last long. Chernobyl's fame as worst nuclear accident has now been greatly eclipsed. Exactly how much will not be known for some years. I'd guess by a factor of 8-15 X. [i.e. a fair telling of the situation now and the likely future consequenses would likely shut down the nuclear industry for civilian use.]
