A PUBLIC APPEAL TO WALT BROWN: Release Jay Harrison's Archive
#51
After reading through the 5 pages of comments following the "appeal" to Walt Brown I have reached the following conclusion (all by myself). According to references throughout the postings, it seems that Mr Harrison was a very diligent investigator who for whatever reason(s) preferred to keep his activities basically "low key" to a large extent. That is not to say that he didn't help others in the research community, but it seems that he did so at his discretion. I never met Mr Harrison but it is apparent that some of those who posted did and in fact were friends with him. The one fact in this affair is that Mr Harrison knew Walt Brown, along with others, for a number of years, and of all the people Mr Harrison knew, HE chose to leave HIS archives to Walt Brown. Unless people believe that they know better than Mr Harrison did, about what he wanted done with his archives, I think it is clear that Mr Harrison did what HE wished to do.

Yes, I know Walt Brown through email and telephone conversations, I have never met him in person, but hope to someday. I believe he is a "Former DEA Man"(circa the early 70's), not FBI as some have posted. I know none of you know who I am so I will tell you: I am just one of the probably millions of people who care about what happened in Dallas, November 22, 1963 and I have been since just after 11:30 am MST Nov 22, 1963 when I first heard the radio report of "something happening in the motorcade" I have never published (nor wished to) articles or books about the assassination, nor have I made a dime from it. However, I do feel that I and the other unknown "researchers" have made contributions to helping attempt to find the truth in this matter. Let's give Mr Harrison credit for being as good a judge of what was to become of his archives as he was good at gathering it in the first place.

Thanks, Rocky

There is a person on this forum [and two off] who have explained to me in detail how your main point is WRONG and that Walt's obtaining of Harrison's papers may have been more an 'op' than the 'will' of Harrison. Others have also voiced their opinion on this, sensing this may well have been so. Would that person on the Forum care to publicly put some of the details they have privately told me here? Many find fishy, Harrison leaving his things to Brown.....and with good reason. There is much more to that story than meets the innocent/unknowing eye! Spy It is FAR from CLEAR that Mr. Harrison had any intention of giving the things to Brown, except at the very end [and in fact did he?] and certainly NOT clear that he meant for them to be sat upon. They were NOT good friends until the end, when Brown fawned all over Harrison, apparently in order to get the archives - and may have deceived Harrison in many ways - if in fact he did even will them to him. These others I hint at, who have told me their version and thoughts, had been long term friends of Harrison - and to a person were very surprised at what happened and HOW it happened - and the other things that happened along with it.

Why was I and many others denied access to them - in my case, after being promised access?! There are SPECIFIC reasons to doubt the story of the accession, as told by Brown. There is a long and sad history of persons getting ahold of important research in this matter, in order for them to no longer see the light of day...... We certainly do NOT see a book or summary; nor is anyone getting access to those important papers!!!! The proof is in the pudding...and in the stories I've been told by several persons - which match one another - about the events near the end of Harrison's life.

I would urge the persons I hint about [they know who they are] to publicly speak to this issue. It is time....IMHO.

Well done, Peter.

As the originator of this thread, I am obliged to explain that my take on the Harrison/Brown affair is not informed by personal interactions with either man; rather, it is an objective analysis informed by whatever expertise in deep political plays and players I've been able to develop over years of study, contemplation, and writing. In addition, my work in this instance has benefited from important exchanges with one of the individuals Peter references in his post.

The most charitable description of Mr. Hoaglund's comments?

Naive.

At best naive. Next to Walt I was Jay's closest friend and when I began to have suspicions about Walt and his intentions- very long story- I attempted to voice them to Jay. To no avail. Jay was a very stubborn man and Walt had the ability to wow him on many levels: Five books on the case, a near perfect memory, both very hot on the Tx. angle. (Are members aware that Walt believes LJB and the FBI killed JFK. No CIA, etc. He told me this on the phone 2/14/05 when my husband and I were visiting Jay.)

Jay's intent was that Walt develop Jay's work and incorporate it into Walt's further work. I bought Walt's mag for a few years after Jay died hoping to see Jay's wishes acted on. To no avail. I called Walt several times and also emailed him. His final email to me regarding Jay's files was that he had no intention of doing anything with Jay's files as only a handful of researchers would know or care.

Aside from participating in this thread I have had no further contact with Walt Brown.
When Jay was on his death bed Walt was there, for several days, and the Sunday before Jay passed Erick and I were there all afternoon and evening with Walt, as Jay passed in and out of consciousness. I left feeling he WAS an honorable man.

Jay is rolling over in his grave.

The moral need to release information about the Kennedy killing certainly outweighs any logistical or personal complications.

Thanks to all who have responded thus far to my post. I am so glad that you all found the time to enlighten me on how such a fine, diligent, STUBBORN man who had put so much of himself into years of his work apparently never gave a lucid moment of thought to what he might want done with the fruit of his labors when he left this world. That may be a naive thought, but honestly I prefer naivety to arrogance. Since it seems a requirement to add qoutes from various people to your posts, here goes:

And thank you, Rocky, for your deep insights into deep political processes and human nature.

I'll look forward to your next dispatch from the affront.

It is late here and these simple questions require long complex answers. I'll attempt a start tomorrow. The short of it is, to my knowledge [Walt refused to sell me his disk and others that have it have refused to sell me copies] there is not one reference to anything Jay Harrison did on that DVD - others can correct me if I am wrong. Second, [very briefly], Tosh at first was 'hot' to get the Harrison files on himself and on some specific persons he worked with/knew. He urged me to contact Brown to get them and as I had already begun to do so, I did. Brown was at first very positive/friendly and we left it that at some time shortly in the future I'd send the money for copies [scanned] and gave Brown the 'list' of topics required. When next contacted Brown was thinking of any/every excuse to not give them to me, and finding flaws in my character/associations [invented] which justified this. Some weeks after, to my great surprise Tosh told me that all Brown had had been copied and was in the hands of the FBI [and other three-letter agencies]* - and that an FBI friend had so informed him...and that he [Tosh] would now urge Brown to not give me anything and do ANYTHING to prevent me or anyone from getting any of the files. Go figure. It is more complex...but that is the short of it.angryfireSpy:mexican::gossip:

*I have no way of knowing if this is so; nor if I should believe Tosh on this - or if this was a ploy.

N.B. I have not heard that Tosh had any of the files...but that doesn't mean this is not so. He certainly acted like he did not - and further that they would do him harm if in the hands of others [later] - earlier he said they'd prove his story and his bona fides.Pullhair

N.B.B. As I mentioned [or hinted at] there are others who's names I will not mention here who know the details and were in contact with Harrison at various times, including near his death. Oh, and there is one more SIGNIFICANT thing I'd love to tell and push in Brown's face like a lemon marangue pie; but for tactical reasons, do not want him to know about - yet! Confusedhock:

Now you have me curious Peter. If Tosh was able to get anything from Walt it is news to me. But that would explainTosh's post saying leave Walt alone, well after he had both me and Peter contacting Walt on a regular basis trying to obtain stuff. In fact I probably would not have even called Walt at all but for Tosh calling me and asking me to contact Walt. I have not heard from Tosh in some time now. Years probably.

Bottom line is Jay trusted Walt. He had other friends like Tree Frog to whom he could have left his stuff but from the time he met Walt, who was actually brought in by Richard Bartholomow, Walt and Jay were THE team. After Walt and Jay got together Richard was pushed out. Nathan Darby refused to get involved with Walt for reasons of his own, told to me.

I had not even heard of this DVD but I have not kept up with what ever Walt is working on.
