Nice catch, Jack! Since 373 is sixty frames after 313 (or about three secs
at 18.3 fps) and Rich explained how the car jostled the passengers forward
when it came to an abrupt halt (where the Connallys and Greer/Kellerman
seem to be thrown forward although the limo is supposed to be accelerating
at this point in time), it looks to me as though this may may be an artifact
from using some of those abrupt-slowing frames with a horizontal insert in
between the back seat and the jump seats that extends from where there
seems to be a discontinuity in the chrome or reflected surface of the right
top edge of the vehicle following upward along the frame for the privacy
window, if that would have been manageable. My conjecture is that their
motion forward ("jostling") might have been so abrupt that they worried
spectators might remember it, so they wanted to include frames to explain
their "misperception". That's only a guess, but it really doesn't look right.
Incidentally, in another thread with Wim, who is a very difficult person to
deal with, questions about the privacy window arose, in particular, since
a privacy window installed in the Presidential limousine SS-100-X when it
was delivered to the White House in June 1961, why was it removed three
months later? Someone on the thread explained that, in September 1961,
the entire center partition area was removed and redesigned, apparently
on the recommendation of the Secret Service. The window was taken out,
and a removable metal frame was designed with glass side panels to hold
the rest of the bubbletop in place. But on the day of the assassination, the
metal frame was in place and the bubbletop was left in the limo's trunk.
While Jack is no fan of Judyth, she made several relevant observations,
which are related to the shot to JFK's throat, which passed through the
limo windshield. It would appear that this shot was given a great deal of
consideration and that the privacy window would have complicated the
trajectory and was therefore removed. So I think she is right about this:
THE PRIVACY WINDOW COULD HAVE BEEN LEFT IN PLACE, BUT INSTEAD
WAS REMOVED...
PRIVACY WINDOW, JUNE 1961
MUCH-MODIFIED PRIVACY 'WINDOW' NOV. 22, 1963---THE ENTIRE 'PRIVACY'
GLASS PART ACROSS THE FRONT, WHICH HAD TWO SLIDING PANELS, WAS
REMOVED (DID NOT HAVE TO BE) AND INSTEAD, THE FRAME SUPPORTS THE
BUBBLETOP AND ONLY THE SIDE WINDOWS OF THE FORMER PRIVACY WINDOW
ARE KEPT IN PLACE...
