I remembered this other reference to the route choice: According to Roger Stone in "Man Who Killed Kennedy," John Connally was the guy who insisted on the Trade Mart as the luncheon destination (causing a stink about it). Connally to JFK advance man Jerry Bruno: "Either we select the stops and run the trips, or the President can stay home." Cliff Carter (LBJ aide) also advocated the Trade Mart.
Stone: "The Secret Service favored the Women's Building for security reasons, and JFK staff preferred it for political reasons."
The Trade Mart destination forced the motorcade route through Dealy Plaza at low speed. When Chief Curry was conducting a 11/18 "trial run" of the motorcade route for SS Sorrells and Lawson, he turned LEFT on Houston Street (instead of right) and just pointed out the Stemmons Freeway to the two SS guys, who therefore had not actually driven through the last leg of the motorcade route.

"All that is necessary for tyranny to succeed is for good men to do nothing." (unknown)
James Tracy: "There is sometimes an undue amount of paranoia among some conspiracy researchers that can contribute to flawed observations and analysis."
Gary Cornwell (Dept. Chief Counsel HSCA): "A fact merely marks the point at which we have agreed to let investigation cease."
Alan Ford: "Just because you believe it, that doesn't make it so."
