Also LBJ fought hard to have Connolly taken out of the car and Yarborough put in instead, obviously he failed, which I think supports that theory. I can just imagine the conversation between LBJ and Connolly when he told him he couldn't move him, 'don't worry they're professionals its a turkey shoot you'll be fine the shooters are rear and right can't miss' etc, amazing stuff. I also think his stetson might have been a way of identifying him as the one not to be shot, though I don't know if he always had that on such trips.
