Get the DVD of this film, turn on the commentary track while you watch - director Andrew Davis discusses how this was inspired by the JFK assassination (and other conspiracies, including the then-recent Iran Contra scandal). The Oswald character really was inspired by Oswald; Davis talks about "setting up patsies," discusses Oswald as infiltrator/provocateur. He points out how he used reporter Ike Pappas in an early scene, and how Pappas was standing next to Ruby when he shot Oswald.
