Dallas for the 50th?
#21
John Mellencamp
Justice and Independence '85

He was born on the fourth day of July
So his parents called him Independence Day
He married a girl named Justice who gave birth to a son called Nation
Then she walked away
Independence he would daydream and he'd pretend
That someday him and Justice and Nation would get together again
But Justice held up in a shotgun shack
And she wouldn't let nobody in.
So a Nation cried.

CHORUS
Oh Oh
When a Nation cries
His tears fall down like missles from the skies
Justice look in Independence's eyes
Can you make everything alright
Can you keep your Nation warm tonight

Well Nation grew up and got himself a big reputation
Couldn't keep the boy at home no no
He just kept running 'round and 'round and 'round and 'round
Independence and Justice well they felt so ashamed
When the Nation fell down they argued who was to blame
Nation if you'll come home we'll have this family again
Oh Nation don't cry

CHORUS
Oh Oh
When a Nation cries
His tears fall down like missiles from the skies
Justice look in Independence's eyes
Can you make everything alright
Can you keep your Nation warm tonight

Roll a rock across the Country
Everybody come along
When you're feelin' down yeah yeah
Just sing this song yeah yeah

I heard someone say folk music was dead?

It has become clear I CANNOT afford the lodging in Dallas in Nov. I could save enough to transport my butt to the events even at four bux a gallon, but not much else. I regret this choice.

I emailed John Judge to inform him.

I will lower the colors in front of my house at 12:30 Nov 22 to half-staff, and keep it there for 30 days. If not in place for the Dealy Plaza Moment-of-Silence, there will be one right here.

I am not big on flying the flag, so I will buy one for this remembrance.
Now the staff is empty and has been for 2 years.

I toyed with the idea of flying the colors upside-down as IMO this Republic is in deep shit and has been since 1963.
I conclude this would disrespect President Kennedy so I will not do so.

Maybe after the 30 days of respect and remembrance.
The ENEMIES cannot halt free expression, free speech and free association, not in my own home.
Not yet.

Best Regards

It is time to ask OWS-Dallas and other civic groups if they will put up those who'd like to attend the 'circus' of the 50th, but can't afford the high hotel rates. Also, check couchsurfers for the Dallas area.

Thanks Peter,
In 1970 or so I would have put up a note at the IU Union...though not a student then except high school.

The amount the Big D folks want to lodge a 'researcher' is just too damn much to borrow at this time.
Or any other time for that matter.

Big D sure doesn't want researchers' views expressed, they only want to tap our money resources.
And put us in a free speech zone as Bu$h/Cheney did in 2004.

I say let them drink oil and eat gold.
