The extremist Westboro Baptist Church says it plans to picket at the funerals of Boston Marathon bombing victims, claiming God sent the blasts that on Monday killed three and injured more than 170 people.

The anti-gay institution known for protesting at the funerals of dead service members made the announcement via its Twitter page.

"The federal government is classifying the bombs as a terrorist attack, but say it's unclear if it's of a domestic or foreign nature," the release said. "Here's a hint God sent the bombs! How many more terrifying ways will you have the Lord injure and kill your fellow countrymen because you insist on nation-dooming filthy fag marriage?!"

The group said Massachusetts invited "this special wrath from God" when it became the first state to pass same-sex marriage legislation in 2004.

Responding to the Westboro announcement, an online petition was launched on the White House website "We the People" calling for the group to be banned from the funerals.

"It's sickening to know that the [Westboro Baptist Church] will be picketing the funerals . . . There is no excuse for this kind of behavior," reads the petition that has received more than 93,600 signatures.

In addition to the petition, a Twitter account affiliated with the hacker group Anonymous also weighed in, warning Westboro on Monday that if it goes forward with its proposed picket it could become a target.

This isn't the first such announcement Westboro has made following an American tragedy.

After the Dec. 14 school shooting in Newtown, Conn., Westboro announced its intentions to picket at the funerals of the victims.

The threat was thwarted after Anonymous hacked the church's website and tweeted out the location of the motel where Westboro's members were staying. A group of prople later formed a human chain to block Westboro members from going through with its picketing.

That Saudi man who was a suspect, then not a suspect and only slightly injured in hospital has just had all of his possessions at his home taken away by the police......but is still not under arrest nor named as a suspect [ha!]. I think David is correct, this was very likely to soften people up for a 'Big One' coming soon.....

N.B. more are expected to die of their injuries and now 170 are listed as seriously injured. The bomb had a pressure vessel surrounded by explosives. The pressure vessel contained BBs and nails to do maximal damage to flesh.

I think they are still looking for the Asian looking man with a North Korean accent.

Yes, there was some thing particularly nasty about those bombs causing maximum human damage and not damage to the buildings etc.

Tell me it ain't true... an Asian looking man with a "North Korean" accent.

'Ricin' found in letter to US Senator Roger Wicker

A letter that has tested positive for the lethal toxin ricin or another poisonous substance has been posted to a US senator, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid has said.


The letter was intended for Roger Wicker, a Republican senator representing Mississippi, Mr Reid said.


It was intercepted at a centre handling post for the Capitol in Washington DC, US media report.


Ricin, extracted from castor beans, is 1,000 times more toxic than cyanide.


It can be fatal when inhaled, swallowed or injected, although it is possible to recover from exposure.


'Memphis postmark'
Mr Wicker issued a statement on Tuesday acknowledging the letter.


"This matter is part of an ongoing investigation by the United States Capitol Police and FBI," he said.


"I want to thank our law enforcement officials for their hard work and diligence in keeping those of us who work in the Capitol complex safe."


An official quoted by AP news agency said two tests had shown positive for ricin but the results are not deemed conclusive without further testing.

The BBC's Jane Little in Washington says there is a heightened sense of alert in the capital after the attacks in Boston but there is no indication so far of any connection between the two incidents.


It is also not clear why the letter was sent to Senator Wicker.


The Senate's chief security office told Reuters: "The exterior marking on the envelope in this case was not outwardly suspicious, but it was postmarked from Memphis, Tennessee."


All mail sent to members of Congress has been screened off-site since letters laced with anthrax were sent to Capitol Hill in 2001.


In 2004, three Senate office buildings were shut after tests found ricin in letters that had been sent to the Senate majority leader's office.


Ricin was the poison used for the infamous murder of Bulgarian dissident Georgi Markov in September 1978.


He was waiting at a bus stop near Waterloo Bridge, London, when a stranger jabbed him in the leg with an umbrella.


The umbrella injected a tiny ricin-filled pellet into Mr Markov's leg and he died three days later in hospital.

The timing is interesting...it comes just days after the Boston Marathon 'thing'; as did the anthrax letters begin shortly after the 911 'thing'. Anyone know anything about the 'target'. Your point is well taken, David, on the clarity of the toxins enclosed. Generic toxins are SO much cheaper than brand-label toxins, anyway. If they didn't know what it was, how did they know it was a toxin [unless they have 'tasters' as potentates and dictators have for centuries - and one expired upon ingestion]? A very strange period we have entered.......

On Aangirfan blogspot, I saw a story about Inspire Magazine, said by the US (in other words the west) to be an al-Qaeda online magazine, but said by Iran to be a CIA front.

What is clear is that no one seems to know for sure who actually is behind Inspire Magazine.

The Daily Bellylaugh today has published a story about this. Personally speaking, I treat much of what the Bellylaugh publishes with more than a grain of salt, since it does have, apparently, certain allegiances. Allegedly. But the newspaper does mention the following:
