The Tippit Case in the New Millenium
#61
How could a civilian eye-witness say that the suspect was armed with a 32 caliber automatic handgun? Would the eyewitness just happen to be an expert on weapons? Can anybody reading this tell me how you could identify a 32 caliber weapon in a person's hand running down the street from 200 or 300 feet away? And not call it a 38 caliber? Or a 30 caliber? Or a 28 caliber?

This just doesn't begin to make any sense to me. Does anyone have an explanation or even a guess about this dubious report?

Another view is attached. The background person stepping over the curb is about 140 feet from #10's right front door. Markham was across 10th street next to the utility pole. Tatum's phantom Galaxie XL 500 (17.5' long) would have been a few car lengths farther away than Markham, putting him 180 feet or so from #10's door. Note: Ford Galaxies of the era had wide rear pillars, an additional viewing obstruction given the sight lines.

Thanks Milo and you are correct.

Somehow I did miss that.

How close did Tatum say he was?

Tatum said only that he went through the intersection. Some distance (perhaps a few car lengths) west was required to view both Markham & #10 while turned around in his seat, if he actually witnessed the event.

Do you mean the 10th a Patton intersection? And he was on Patton.

So he never actually turned onto 10th?

Yes, I mean Patton & 10th intersection, but Tatum was not on Patton. He claimed he drove west on 10th (from Denver) and "went right through the intersection, stopped my car, and turned to look back."

Milo:

If he was coming from Denver St then he must have gone right through tenth street and the scene of the crime.

And he says that the whole thing happened as he was going through the intersection at 10th and Patton? And he was looking backward from inside his car?

Keen observations there in post #61, Mr. Lateer.

Where it's possible a civilian or two could be very familiar with a range of firearms, particularly in Texas, it's altogether a different story to have them weigh in on their expertise some 200 feet away (a good point).

That said, since Mr. DiEugenio has initiated this interesting thread, the more we read and glean from the events at 10th & Patton, the more we experience/understand the widening gap between what we are being told happened as oppose to what really happened. Mr. Reech's input further illustrates that.

We may never ever know the actual truth, but it is encouraging that some critical-thinkers are examining this case in the new millennium.

One of my chief concerns is why would the decedent's best friend, Carl Amos Mather, seek immunity before testifying before the House Select Committee on Assassinations ---->

What are the odds that Mather--a CIA government contractor w/Collins Radio--would have a best friend (a JFK look-alike @ Tippit) killed on the same day as President Kennedy? There's more to what we have been told and what really unfolded at 10th & Patton, and the reasons Why.

What was Mather afraid of? Why did he feel compelled to seek immunity? What was Mather hiding? Did he help lure his best "friend" to his demise at 10th & Patton?

The Mather story is important and needs more investigation. But Tippit was not a JFK lookalike by any
stretch. Late pictures of him were suppressed by the WC and rarely circulated, but I have two in my book INTO THE NIGHTMARE,
and you can see some online, including autopsy photos; the WC volumes include only two pictures of Tippit,
from 1952 and 1957, probably to prevent more witnesses from commenting on his activities in 1963, but the earlier photos
don't resemble JFK either. And the idea that Tippit's body was switched for JFK's -- the point of this false theory -- is ludicrous and unsupported by any evidence.
