The Vehicle on the Grassy Knoll

Adele Edisen Wrote:Hi, David,

I surely could have sympathized with you. I kept thinking I was walking (when that was possible) like Groucho Marx, as if seated; it was more comfortable that way.

But did you suck on a cigar as you walked liked Groucho?:embarassed:

David,
The cigar could have kept me from screaming. I should have thought of that.

Honest Joe was indeed an interesting character. His close associates included Lewis McWillie and Jack Ruby. In fact, after the assassination, he traded on his friendship with Ruby.

This image below show's Honest Joe outside his shop. The photo strip in the window is of Jack Ruby.

BTW, Ruth Paine owned a 1955 Chevrolet, not a Rambler.

Regarding 1959 Ramblers, it might be worth noting that besides George Wing, owners of such a vehicle at the time were Howard K. Davis, Rip Robertson and Rafael Diaz who was a Dallas member of Alpha 66 and DPD informant.

FWIW.

A warm welcome James! Thank you for adding to this already very interesting thread. I look forward to many more.

"He would, wouldn't he?" Mandy Rice-Davies. When asked in court whether she knew that Lord Astor had denied having sex with her.

Also a warm welcome from me James. I know Magda is after some "snaps" for her ever growing database and I look forward to seeing some of these in the future.

Thank you to Magda and David for your kind welcome.

I addition, it might be worth mentioning that Honest Joe was the one who provided the replica weapon for the Warren Commission's investigation of the assassination.

Here is another image of Honest Joe and his store.

Anyone, what were Honest Joe's political sentiments and who were his friends in and around Dallas? Now, what in the world would the WC want a replica for, when the real thing [never used in the assassination anyway!] were readily available?! Fake case demands a fake gun, I guess....a certain logic there!

Well, Honest Joe's shop certainly looks like you could buy anything there. The man in the chair sure looks like he is holding some serious hardware there. I imagine that Joe's political affiliations went to the highest bidder.

Is this the gun they tried to replicate the 6th floor shooting with or was it used for something else?

Peter,

It seems Honest Joe was one of those guys who knew everyone, including some of the more colorful folk. He mixed with Ruby, Lewis McWillie, the Campisis, and most of the Dallas underworld.

He was also associated with Julius Schepps, a prominent Dallas businessman and identity. That is a most interesting aspect to research as it leads to a man named Homer Beren who ultimately leads to Abraham Zapruder.

FWIW.

James, forgive my ignorance but re Julius Schepps what do you mean when you say he was a prominent.... "identity"?

Sitting in a rocking chair with a .50 cal machine gun on one's lap must be Texas fun, eh.
