Yes Ike did try to warn us.
BUT:
He did serve well as Dugout Doug MacArthur's Executive Officer (Adjutant) when Dugout Doug turned his USArmy troops loose on the Bonus Marchers in 1932.
The same Bonus Marchers Smedley Butler visited, contributed to and supported.
Peaceful citizens seeking redress of grievance attacked by US Army troops under his command authority as 2nd in line.
Herbert Hoover was pleased seeing the glow of flames from the White House.
Dugout Doug was pleased.
I figure Ike was too.
I would have resigned my commission before when the operation was being planned or when I was briefed on it.
Internal Moral Compass.
However, Ike was a victim of the ST.
Prouty makes this clear in more than one instance.
His Crusade For Peace was hoped to be his gift to the world on leaving office.
It is not unthinkable that the two former soldiers Eisenhower and Khrushchev could have found common ground.
Maybe even began rapprochement to the former ally in 1960.
It was wrecked in the contrived U-2 fiasco. May 1960.
That episode exposed the ST (or parts thereof) to Ike.
Even before May '60 Ike knew the danger.
He did push for satellite recon long before I knew anything about it.
I wonder if he was wanting to stop Le May's provocation in overflights.
He did halt John Foster's plans for "limited" nuke war twice.
Clearly he is not "one of them", he was burned badly by "them".
Of the Generals that became President, Eisenhower compares most favorably.
He was used.
At least they ruined his career as opposed to the action taken against the next President.
They allowed Ike to live.
The price of being a Career Citizen Soldier but not a Militarist even as President?

Read not to contradict and confute;
nor to believe and take for granted;
nor to find talk and discourse;
but to weigh and consider.
