God, I hate to be the barrier of bad news, but it really wasn't a phony war. The United States needed to protect it's interest in the Middle East over oil. The war is what drove oil prices up until reaching its peek, then, this government would remain in control so long as the United States could intervene at will. What do you think we've been doing in the Middle East since 1947?
