I've long been suspicious about all the philandering JFK was supposed to do. Exactly what evidence (I was going to say "hard" evidence, but never mind...) exists about all the women he supposedly slept with? I am willing to acknowledge exactly two: MM and Angie Dickinson who fessed up rather proudly on the tonight show years ago. For one thing, when did he find the time? How many are there anyway and how come more haven't surfaced over the years? I don't believe the Judith Exner story for a minute: JFK leaps into bed with her hours after she's been with....Sam Giancana!!!??? Bull. Prostitutes in the White House? More Bull. Show me the visitor logs. Are there any statements about this from any of his friends or supporters? No? Any credible sources? I don't consider SS agents who detested JFK per Abe Bolden as credible. Then who?
GWB had many visits from a male prostitute. How do we know? WH visitor logs, that's how. Where are the JFK visitor logs? Routinely destroyed I suppose......
And the ongoing assassination of JFK's character rolls merrily along.......

^^ Especially with the multitude of health problems we are told he had. The bad back alone would make such activities difficult, though of course he was supposed to be on a lot of painkillers and uppers, etc.

Don't fall for that one. I did a lot of research on the Monroe thing. Spoto's book is by far the best.
There just is not credible evidence for an MM/JFK affair. ANd even less for RFK.
There is no doubt that Kennedy was a philanderer. But the cases and instances have been so aggrandized that they are absurd.

GWB or GHWB? You have sources on this?

Lauren, he was being sarcastic and trying to compare the accusations against JFK to these sarcastic fantasies about Bush. You know, by hinting there was equal evidence for both.

" I don't believe the Judith Exner story for a minute "
There exists a "home movie" of JFK and Exner on a dock ramp entering a boat, and JFK is very dissapprovingly waiving the camera away.
Does anyone remember seeing this?
Personally i think a lot of the women stories were exaggerated - just blown out of proportion, Seems to be that Kennedy was disliked by many around him. Perhaps any of that behavior spiked the imagination of some.
There is also a video rant from a SS man about all the prostitutes that JFK allegedly used.

In the first instance, if we are thinking of the same "boat picture" that turned out to be a fraud. It was exposed very quickly after it was run online.
As per the SS, c'mon. Who can believe these guys? They were gotten to from the beginning and they have been cultivated by the likes of Hersh and ABC.
JFK likely did have an affair with Exner.
But all the other stuff built up around it, things that she and others, like Hersh, and Time-Life have built on it are provably fake.

Sabato is worse right now, because his book was insidious psychological warfare, that only a pure political scientist could write.
Dallek's was also terrible, but if anything, Jim I thought you went too easy on Sabato.
On the other hand I read Sabato's more recently (and got 2. 3rds of the way through before becoming violently ill) So maybe after reading your article Dallek will catch up.
But it is a shame that THERE ARE STILL NOT ENOUGH REAL REVIEWS OF DALLEK UP THERE.
AT AMAZON. ONLY LIKE 6 OR 7 ONE STARS VS LIKE 50 FIVE STARS. I REALLY HOPE MORE WILL POST REVIEWS WITH LINKS TO REAL BOOKS.

Too easy?
The only things I gave him credit for were his polling, and the stuff he put in the book about the problems with the evidence in the JFK case. He did devote many pages to that issue.
He then ended up discarding it. And I noted that also.
The polling was important for our side. Because it bears out all the things we thought the JFK case was and is.
But then I noted that his book was written seemingly to show all those people they were wrong about JFK. And that was the brunt of my review. About 90% of it.
