When Jim Garrison tried to get Oswald's tax returns, they were classified.
Anyone know if they have been released, perhaps under the ARRB? If not, maybe a good FOIA target?

On November 22, 1996, Marina Oswald Porter and the Assassination Record Review Board's John Tunnheim appeared on the Oprah Winfrey television program. On that broadcast, Tunnheim asked Marina point blank to release Oswalds tax forms and said, "We're asking her to cooperate as well with help getting access to Lee Harvey Oswald's tax files...." Marina refused, adding: "It's not important." (from H&L website)

As noted above, never released.
Good 'target' - yes; possible successful target - not in your wildest dreams.
Its been tried, and if they weren't released under the JFK Records Act, they won't ever be.
They can NOT release them...they'd show he was on various intelligence agency payrolls.
You'll NEVER see them! The system protects itself - at all costs - and truth or the law be damned.

Then we must surely question Marina's sincerity.

Mark Lane has successfully argued in court that if Oswald was a lone nut, then where is the National Security argument?
I presume from Marina's comments that she has the tax records in her possession?

Texas has no state income tax. But Louisiana does (I think). Maybe there are some old tax-type forms with the State of Louisiana.

Absolutely! The WC or the HSCA or the ARRB could have easily contacted the Louisiana Dept. of Revenue for Oswald's state income tax withholding records as well as the Board of Labor in New Orleans, which issued work permits for persons under the age of 18.
They didn't, though. With all those lawyers, apparently no one knew how to make a phone call to Louisiana.
This is clearly a pattern in government investigations. The Warren Commission went to the trouble of gathering together Marina and several other witnesses to try to establish whether Oswald drove a car. But not one of those brilliant attorneys bothered to call the Texas Department of Public Safety License Records Department to see if a driver's license had been issued to "Lee Harvey Oswald."

Another possible explanation for these discrepancies is that Angleton was creating a false trail of Oswald employment records in his mole hunt. He would have to plant several different incorrect nuggets for the mole to uncover, and the pattern of which nuggets were wrong and which were right would lead him to the mole.
Let's say I have 2 "secret files" and 4 possible suspects. 1 secret file contains misinformation. I let 2 of the suspects gain access to 1 "FBI secret file", and the other 2 gain access to a "CIA secret file". Then, I write 2 "top secret reports," one of which contains misinformation. Then, I pair off my suspects with a different suspect, and allow all of them access to one "secret report" or the other.
My four suspects will then each have access to a unique pattern of biographical information as follows:
s1 file correct, report correct
s2 file correct, report incorrect
s3 file incorrect, report correct
s4 file incorrect, report incorrect
I wait for the information to leak, and then I know the identity of my mole. The more pairs of misinformation I have, the more suspects can be identified from my original pool of suspects.
