My new book, "Into the Nightmare"
IMO "Tippit behind the fence" is a variation of "Oswald in the doorway". Operating with a handful of pixels, in a time, where pixels change ( Photoshop etc.) is poor historiography. And after all: Tippit behind the fence...so what?

Tippit behind the fence [so what?] when he was supposed to be in his car in Oak Cliff [actually elsewhere in his car....but, we'll let that go for now] is the same kind of nonsense KK is famous for as would be: LHO in the Checkers Room having a coke [so what?] - rather than on the sixth floor gloating over his shooting or making a get-away - at least nervous or out of breath. To paraphrase Mayor Daley, KK is not here to create disorder; he is here to preserve disorder.

Joseph McBride Wrote:I have extensive sections on the "Badge Man" photo and on the conflicting
reports of Tippit's whereabouts during that crucial period (including the story about him being
home having lunch). Those conflicting reports have problems of timing and other
issues that I examine in detail. I don't draw a conclusion
that Tippit was "Badge Man" but raise that possibility and note
the conflicting stories that still need resolution. Jack White carefully showed me in his office
how he did the photographic work that led to the blowup of the "Badge Man"
image from the Moorman photo and walked me through the
process, which satisfied me that he knew what he was talking about. Of course, there has been a lot of debate
over that image both pro and con all along. It's often ignored that there are other photos taken at the time
of the assassination showing the man behind the retaining wall ("Badge Man"
or "Black Dog Man"; the same figure, in my opinion). There is also
a witness who reported on two Dallas policemen firing
from close to her on the knoll. If people have more specific
questions about these sections in the book, I'd be happy to answer
them, but if someone hasn't read my highly detailed discussions, it
seems a bit redundant and possibly reductive to try to go into
more here.

It's easy to forget that the Badge Man concept was perhaps not the "invention" of Mack but Jack White, for whom I had much respect. I have not seen TMWKK in many years but the image of Mack in this video is what I recall. I keep away from the photographic "evidence" as it's all too easy to imagine what one thinks they see, then outline said imagined image so that the rest of us can also "see".
A better memory from that same episode is the man who described a shot almost hitting him, coming from behind. That was powerful. He broke down.
That scene was for me the introduction of Badge Man. (Which, at the time, did seem convincing.)

I believe in Ed Hoffman, ( he saw two cooperating men behind the fence, one shooter) Lee Bowers ( he saw two man acting suspicious at the same place), Jean Hill,( Quote: I saw the man(the shooter behind the fence)...I do not need any Badgeman discussion, or who was Badgeman-discussion to be convinced, there was a shooter behind the fence surrounded by a team, that supported and protected him...discussions like "Oswald in the doorway" or "who was badgeman" are completely academic, putting the reader of such stuff to nowhere land...and I do not intent to go there...

Tracy, that is interesting to me that you mention Larry Harris....

I spent a lot of time with Larry in Dallas in 1983 and 1984 when I visited to work on a Masters thesis on the JFK assassination from Cambridge in England. I have family and friends in Texas and Louisiana so was able to stay. I was young - in my early twenties and academically inclined rather than being say a young investigative reporter! Paul Hoch or Mary Ferrell put me in touch with Larry - I cant recall which person, but it was one of the two - or possibly Tony Summers who got me started on the whole thing.

I spent many evenings with Larry at his small apartment discussing the case. I also contacted the Dallas Police and they assigned a liaison officer to me for 2 half days - I was told I was the first overseas graduate student to do so (I found that amazing), so I was taken up to the 6th floor, they got me in the Paine house and I was shown all around the DPD city hq. I met a number of retired DPD and about 20 people who witnessed the assassination. My thesis will form part of a book I am currently writing - when it will be published - God only knows.

But the reason for my posting is that I am happy to share thoughts on Larry's theories at the time - its hazy, but if I can add to the study it would be a pleasure. I can be contacted on patrick@pdmc.eu

I live in the UK so I am between 5 and 8 hours ahead of those of you in the US. Curiously I just found some old pics of Larry and I and one of Larry on the grassy knoll that I took. He was a lovely guy - we kept in touch for years, but lost touch I guess around 1990. I had no idea he had been killed until I looked him up in Michael Benson's encyclopedia of the Kennedy assassination.

I do not know the circumstances of the accident. If anyone here does, I would be interested to know.

FYI - I believed in a conspiracy for years, I no longer do, but remain open to the more sensible theories. Anyway as this was about Larry - I am contactable to share Larry's thoughts - though as I say its hazy, but I do have notes.

The late Larry Ray Harris (who died in a mysterious car crash in 1996) was supposed to be the expert on the subject. He lived in Dallas, and even took jobs at the TSBD and as a letter carrier in Oak Cliff to help his research.

Jack White posted this on the EF: "My friend and great researcher Larry Ray Harris has been dead since 1996, and his research was by no means complete. In fact the whereabouts of his extensive files is not known ever since the one-car accident which killed him (reports are that his most serious injury was a broken leg)."

Hi Patrick, thanks for sharing that info about Larry.
I'm not sure what you mean by "more sensible theories." As you may have seen when you signed up, defenders of the Warren Commission are not exactly welcome on this forum. Personally, though, I would be interested in hearing precisely what evidence made you change your mind about a conspiracy.

If, Mr. Collins, your main criterion for consideration of JFK assassination scenarios is their sensibility, AND you accept the Warren Commission's findings ... well, I'll simply I leave you with this:

Anyone with reasonable access to JFK assassination evidence who does not conclude that he was killed by conspirators is cognitively impaired and/or complicit in the crime.

Sensible enough for you?

[That, of course, is a rhetorical question. As such, it is not intended to solicit a response or any other form of dialogue.]
