DiEugenio and Pease: THE ASSASSINATIONS
#1
This excerpt from p. 133 sure interested me:

For those who can't see the graphic above, here is the text from the excerpt on p. 133:
In early 1964 Richard Russell was very troubled and asked Army Intelligence Colonel Phillip Corso to quietly conduct an investigation into the "Oswald matter." Corso soon reported to Senator Russell that there had been two United States Passports issued to Lee Harvey Oswald, and had been used by two different men. He obtained this information from the head of the U.S. Passport office, Francis Knight. He also reported to Senator Russell there were two birth certificates in the name of Lee Harvey Oswald and they too had been used by two different people. He obtained this information from William Sullivan--head of the FBI's Domestic Intelligence Division.

That chapter was actually written by Armstrong himself. Is Corso the only source for that story?

That was my question too. Corso is an iffy source to say the least.
“The most difficult subjects can be explained to the most slow-witted man if he has not formed any idea of them already; but the simplest thing cannot be made clear to the most intelligent man if he is firmly persuaded that he knows already, without a shadow of doubt, what is laid before him.”

Ah, OK, I knew John had interviewed Corso, but I was hoping this was independent corroboration.

In Harvey and Lee, John cites his own interview with Corso and "Anthony Summers, Official and Confidential, the Secret Life of J. Edgar Hoover (New York) 1993, p. 322." There are several references in Secret Life... to Corso's claim. Here's one...

Google produces some additional hits for this from Secret Life... but I can't get the "preview" to show them fully enough to be useful.

At any rate, I've heard about Corso and the aliens business, but when someone in a position like his makes a statement about multiple Oswalds, you know they're going to get "the treatment"... or worse. I don't understand why Richard Russell, who gave every appearance of being the most honorable man on the WC, would hire someone daft to conduct this investigation.

Corso's descent into "UFO" phenomenon and the corresponding crumbling of his credibility, roughly corresponds with his testifying to Congress that there were still MIA's in Vietnam in the early 90's. I have always wondered if this guy deliberately self immolated his own reputation. Ross Perot in 1992 based his candidacy for president partly upon the MIA issue... Or was it that being publicly humiliated, on live TV by Senator McCain in the course of that hearing, drove him into a permanent mental rebellion against the government and all the secrets he had sworn to protect....

Or was it just madness?
"All that is necessary for tyranny to succeed is for good men to do nothing." (unknown)

James Tracy: "There is sometimes an undue amount of paranoia among some conspiracy researchers that can contribute to flawed observations and analysis."

Gary Cornwell (Dept. Chief Counsel HSCA): "A fact merely marks the point at which we have agreed to let investigation cease."

Alan Ford: "Just because you believe it, that doesn't make it so."
