Altgens 6: Case for Alteration?
#11
Jack, Bernice, et al,

If A-6 did not see the light day for weeks or longer after the attack, my hypothesis endures.

I have no knowledge of when A-6 was first published.
My first remembrance of it was in The Saturday Evening
Post weeks later, but I have no knowledge of when it
may have appeared in other publications.

However, I do know that A-7 was published Nov.23.
But I suspect A-7 was not genuine (untampered).

from Paul Rigby many thanks there fella....b

The earliest large scale reproduction of the Altgens photo in question that I can find in my collection of old newspapers is that on the front page of the All Star Night edition of the Toronto Daily Star, November 22: It shows the Oswald/Lovelady figure, but like all versions of the photo until that published by the SatEvePost (?) in mid-December '63, this version is cropped to reveal nothing of the south curb of Elm.

The Milwaukee Journal of November 23, States Edition (ie an early one), shows a slightly reduced area than the above, but enlarged.

more information from Paul Rigby, again many thanks.

Hi B,

The Washington Post used a tightly cropped version - focusing on the limo & Kennedy's reaction to his throat wound - on an inside page of editions on November 22, 1963. Follow this ebay link & click through them : http://cgi.ebay.com/John-F-Kennedy-JFK-A...255dca7c3f

The same paper used a large, but still cropped, version on the front page of most (all?) editions on Saturday, 23 November.

I can dimly remember seeing a US newspaper version of similar dimensions to the latter in an evening edition on November 22, but I'm damned if I can remember which newspaper it was. Interestingly, the photo was used a lot less than one might reasonably have anticipated, or been led to believe.

Best,

Paul

below is about the best large i have from robin unger...b

Thanks, Bernice. I ask everyone to compare the COMPOSITION QUALITY
of these DP photos to his "famous exposures" shot at the same time.
It is difficult to believe that the same man shot the "perfect compositions"
and the random snapshots not worthy of even an amateur.

Think. Compare.

I'd like to expand on this observation from Jack... specifically A-7

Not only is the exposure very poor compared to the crisp clean A-6 and A-5

But the top right of the photo has been removed for some reason...
The way it is framed there is no reason for the detail on the top right should be gone...

The RR men on the bridge extend above this cropped area... so I added it back from Cabluck

In McIntyre we can see thru the entire tunnel... based on the A-7 angle we should also see light at the end of the tunnel from the opposite direction....

There is ALOT wrong with this photo... and this Bell frame shows what that tunnel should look like from Altgens POV... no?

Furthermore... from NIX/MUCHMORE we see the QM disappear from the frame while the limo speeds off...

Any idea how it catches the limo so quickly even BEFORE the overpass?

Representative FORD. Was there any reaction that you noticed on the part of Greer when the noise was noticed by you?
Mr. KELLERMAN. You are referring, Mr. Congressman, to the reaction to get this car out of there?
Representative FORD. Yes.
Mr. KELLERMAN. Mr. Congressman, I have driven that car many times, and I never cease to be amazed even to this day with the weight of the automobile plus the power that is under the hood; we just literally jumped out of the God-damn road.

There are some severe inconsistencies with the Altgens photos, especially 7.

No thoughts as to why that image looks as it does compared to the rest and WHY is the top right of the overpass removed?
