Jim DiEugenio on The Devil's Chessboard
#31
Jim DiEugenio Wrote:Thanks again.

I checked our stats today.

The Talbot review has actually increased its rating.

Its at 1732 hits per day and 1497 visits per day. A phenomenal ratio.

That increase corresponds with the Amazon rating of the book jumping about 400 places.

Maybe I should ask Talbot for a piece of the action?

I believe your review is making the rounds on social media sites, which may account for the huge increase of hits on CTKA, and yes, the increased publicity for "Devil's Chessboard" warrants some recognition, for sure. Wink It is far and away the fairest and most comprehensive.

Especially on facebook. That is where I first read it and shared it on my page and others shared it on theirs. There is a HUGE community on facebook. All things conspiracy, not just JFK, kinda like this forum.

That must be the case, because I looked up the stats today and they went up again.

Its now at 1836 hits and 1576 visits per day. And that was on Xmas.

I really do not recall those kinds of stats on any article we ever posted.

I think you'll see more of this in the future as more and more people join social media, go online and get smart phones, iPhones and the like for quick communication.

I sent an SMS to a friend in Melbourne (an Australian cinematographer with a lot of industry buddies) when the review first went online - "Di Eugenio's big DEVIL'S CHESSBOARD review up now on CTKA." He wrote me back within the hour noting "Cheers, will look at it tonight". He has a handful of friends who are also following the assassination and I'm sure he would have told them about the review on the same day. This is how things go viral these days.

Readings Bookshop in Carlton (one of the remaining top quality bookshops down here following a wave of closures a few years back) had four copies of the book in stock, and my friend bought one of them, so word is getting around. DEVIL'S CHESSBOARD is now #955 out of all books on Amazon as I type, and has received a wave of five-star reviews in the past few days. This tells me it's broken out of the typical JFK assassination volume ghetto and is being recognised more widely as a book worthy of attention. I expect to see more five-star reviews, and the inevitable token hit piece rebuttals from idiots who haven't read the book, in the near future.

That is excellent news Anthony. Both about the book breaking out of the JFK ghetto and the existence of independent book shops in Melbourne.
"The philosophers have only interpreted the world, in various ways. The point, however, is to change it." Karl Marx

"He would, wouldn't he?" Mandy Rice-Davies. When asked in court whether she knew that Lord Astor had denied having sex with her.

“I think it would be a good idea” Ghandi, when asked about Western Civilisation.

My fiancée bought "Devil's Chessboard" for me as a Christmas present in-store from Barnes and Nobles.
"All that is necessary for tyranny to succeed is for good men to do nothing." (unknown)

James Tracy: "There is sometimes an undue amount of paranoia among some conspiracy researchers that can contribute to flawed observations and analysis."

Gary Cornwell (Dept. Chief Counsel HSCA): "A fact merely marks the point at which we have agreed to let investigation cease."

Alan Ford: "Just because you believe it, that doesn't make it so."

In checking the stats from yesterday, it has now become the first article I can recall at CTKA to go over 2000 hits in a day.

It got 2034 hits yesterday and 1738 visits.

That ratio is holding strong.

Has there ever been a NYT best seller that was NOT reviewed by the NYT? This may prove a bit embarrassing for the paper.

That is a really good question.

Offhand, I would say yes though.

BTW, I will be on BOR this week to talk about three things:

1. My review of the movie Trumbo.

2. My discussion of Carol Hewett's work on Ruth and Mike Paine and their role in the elimination of Oswald's Minox camera for the FBI.

3. My review of The Devil''sChessboard.

So before you get drunk, listen.
